BIOTIN AND MINERAL SUPPLEMENT FOR HEAL THE HOOVES OF HORSES

PROPERTIES: SOUTER'S BIO-HOOF° has been formulated to provide the essential nutrients involved in the growth and maintenance of healthy hooves. An adequate supply of the vitamin biotin and the minerals calcium, sulfur and zinc, has a role in the growth of a strong resilient hoof wall. An inadequate intake of the structural minerals, trace-minerals and biotin, results in loss of hoof strength and easily broken away, chipped or cracked hooves in all horses.

Biotin also has role in general metabolism. Biotin is a sulfur-containing vitamin that plays a role in maintaining the integrity of hair, hooves and the skin. Calcium constitutes about 2% of the body weight, giving strength and structure to bones, hoofs and teeth. Sulfur- is found in every cell of the body, and being a part of vitamin biotin it is an essential component of the important protein forming amino acids. Zinc is a trace-mineral needed for normal skin, bones, hair and hooves structure and it is essential for the synthesis and metabolism of proteins. The protein keratin that is formed from these micronutrients gives strength to the hoof wall.

Studies have indicated that whilst biotin was beneficial in improving the growth rate of the hoof wall, its combination with the mineral calcium improved the strength and resilience of the hoof wall of horses to a greater degree than biotin alone. Research has also shown that to regrow a healthy hoof takes between 6-9 months.

Horses require adequate good quality protein and a balanced ration to ensure proper hoof growth, strength and resilience. For best results, use BIO-HOOF® together with CALCIPLEX BONE & JOINT PLUS, VITAM PLUS HEALTH & VITALITY and/or MIN-A-VIT® RACING & BREEDING to provide additional vitamins and minerals to correct low or inadequate dietary intake in horses with crumbly, easily broken away hooves.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Mix BIO-HOOF with feed, and dose as shown below. One level scoop contains approximately 35 g.

Ponies (200 kg body weight)    10 g per day   
Horses (450 kg body weight)    20 g per day
