Ectosoothe 250mL
VIRBAC
Flea shampoo for dogs with sensitive skin
Contains Permethrin
Permethrin is a well-known insecticide that helps to rapidly eliminate adult fleas from dogs. The rapid knock-down effect limits the feeding time of the flea and the risk of flea allergy dermatitis.
2% Colloidal Oatmeal
Ectosoothe contains colloidal oatmeal that cleans the skin and removes dirt and other particles that can cause irritation. Colloidal oatmeal also soothes inflamed skin and relieves itchy, dry skin.
Ectosoothe is useful in the management of FAD - a pruritic dermatitis arising from a hypersensitivity to the bites of fleas (essentially Ctenocephalides felis).
FAD is one of the three major allergic skin diseases that have to be considered in the differential diagnosis of pruritic dermatoses, the others being atopic dermatitis and food allergy.
Clinical signs
FAD is still sometimes referred to as ‘summer eczema’
The primary eruption is an erythematous papule, which may develop a crust before disappearing in 2-4 days.
The distribution involves mainly the lower back, posterior and inner thighs. These are also the sites most favoured by the fleas.
Secondary lesions resulting from self-trauma are common due to the intense pruritus.
Changes seen in chronic cases include seborrhoea, crusting, alopecia and eventually lichenification.
Key points to remember
The only effective means of curing and preventing FAD remains the protection of the animal from flea bites.
Combination therapy using an insecticide and an insect growth regulator tremendously enhances the speed of success and the efficacy of long- term prevention.
Environmental control is critical as 95% of the flea life cycle live off the pet, and can survive up to 6 months in the environment
FAD may be associated with secondary cutaneous infections and/or another allergic dermatitis, especially with atopic dermatitis (increasing the risk of cutaneous infections).
Directions for Use
Wet coat thoroughly with warm water and apply Ectosoothe, rub until lather occurs (wear gloves and avoid eye contact).
